Regulation in the Body, A Flow Not a Fixed State.
Regulation is a very common word around the media right now, and especially about nervous system regulation, but what does it mean in our daily life to have regulators that swirl this regulation in our bodies or just let our body regulate itself that it knows to do very well?.
Have you felt a breeze on your face? or saw two birds chirping at each other with gossip? or saw a leaf falling in the arms of the wind? or witnessed a kid jumping on the road and smiling at the invisible friend called life? Or have you just felt the earth beneath your feet so strong and stable? Have you seen just the flowers bouncing on the trees? Have you slept next to your loved one and kept your hand on their body and felt a current of calmness move towards you as if the world just moved a little bit slower? Have you heard the sound of a knife touching the cutting board when you cut vegetables? Have you seen a new leaf on your houseplant maybe? or have you seen your loved ones just laughing with their heart out to their favorite show? Have you ever felt a sense of safety and love, just with the presence of your loved one in the room next to you ? and so many more I cannot count but just experience, as noting them down makes me understand its mystery and what is a mystery that I seem to understand and what is a life that I seem to understand?.
It is not about looking at these things, it’s so much about connecting to the sensations that evoke in your body, that opening you feel as you read this, that expansion, it is what we need to dive into and let it spread in our being.
These experiences are the corners of everyday life that help your body regulate itself and find a sense of safety. Regulation is not the feeling of calm or feeling calm all the time, it is instead this flow where activation, information, and everything through our being moves, and then the body metabolizes and balances itself, its like a stream, the up and down is and so much in between is where our harmony and health lies. This is so essential to our well-being that if are constantly not regulated then we are activated or probably shut down to our world, where information from the outside feels too much or it’s like a constant rush from one piece of information to the other. Our bodies when not regulated show us symptoms, behaviors, patterns, and what we name as diseases or pathologies but are just states of the body saying, ‘ Hey I am protecting myself here, and I feel no safety and sense of being here and belonging right here at this moment and I still live in the past or preparing for the future. I am calling for help, Can you listen?.
So the question is are you listening? Are you tending to your body? Are you trending to the sensations in your body? Are you feeling the different states of your body? Have you noticed where are you in terms of energy in the body? Are you feeling a rush or just closed off or a state where everything is welcomed and there seems to be flow and you are learning how to move through it?
